Lakshmikutty Amma's mother, Janaki was from Kattumadam House in Vaikom.
Pangkajakshan Pillai, Lakshmikutty's father, was from Paiyapallil House, North Paravur. He was an advocate and practised there and known to Janaki's father, G. Krishna Pillai who was then the District Court Lawyer. Thus, he arranged their marriage. Pangkajakshan was 20 and Janaki, 18 when they got married.
Janaki moved to live with her husband, Pangkajakshan in North Paravur after marriage. A year after marriage, Lakshmikutty was born in 1910, September.
Lakshmikutty's early childhood was in Paravur and she still recalls some of her fond memories there. Her father had built a big house there. She went to an English medium school there till the age of 14.
However, her father died of a stomach growth (probably cancer) and her mother was made a widow at a very young age. She then moved to Vaikom with her children and gave up the house in Paravur.
Lakshmikutty stopped schooling since there was no English medium school in Vaikom. She grew up with her maternal aunties and cousins. Hence, even now she is closely associated with their children and grandchildren.
Janaki Amma had 2 sisters, Ammukutty Amma and Pangkajaksi Amma (4 years older than Lakshmikutty Amma whom she was very fond of), and 4 brothers, Damudran Panicker, Kesava Panicker, Balakrishna Panicker and Madhava Panicker.
Ammukutty Amma's children were Padmanabha Panicker (died when he was 43 of chicken pox), Bhaskaran Panicker (Mani who had worked in NEB in Malaya), N Ramakrishna Panicker, Gobinathan (died of Chicken pox at age 26) and Lakshmikutty (died at 12 years old).
Pangkajaksi Amma's children are Saradha Amma (fondly called Ommana who is BALT and married to lawyer Padmanabha Pillai) and Gopalakrishnan (aka Vikraman who is BA Msc). pangkajaksi died after delivering her 3rd child due to an epilepsy attack (her baby also died soon after). Lakshmikutty vividly recalled this tragedy in her life. Taking care of Ommana and Vikraman, she watched from outside the window as the elders in the room tried to save her favourite aunt and baby in vain.
Ommana lives in TVM and Vikraman lives with his wife and children in Ernakulum. Vikraman's son, Vijayan, a naval officer has visited Lakshmikutty in Happy Gardens a couple of times.
N.R. Panicker's son, Sarat Kumar (Mohan) from Doha also has visited Lakshmikutty in Happy Gardens.
[Sadly, on 20th Oct, 2010, Vikraman passed on peacefully. On that morning he had his usual exercise of walking in the yard assisted by his son, had breakfast and passed away before lunch]
